Ground Zero Blues Club to Pay $35,000 in EEOC Case

Ground Zero Blues Club, a popular music venue in Clarksdale, Mississippi, has agreed to pay $35,000 to settle a discrimination lawsuit brought by the U.S. Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC). The lawsuit alleged that the club had subjected a female employee to sexual harassment and retaliation.

The EEOC investigation found that the employee had been subjected to unwelcome sexual advances and comments by a male co-worker, and that the club had failed to take prompt and effective action to address the harassment. When the employee complained about the harassment, she was allegedly retaliated against by being given less desirable work assignments.

In addition to the monetary settlement, Ground Zero Blues Club has also agreed to implement training for all employees on sexual harassment and retaliation prevention, as well as revise their policies and procedures to ensure a safe and discrimination-free work environment for all employees.

This case serves as a reminder to employers of the importance of addressing and preventing harassment in the workplace, and the consequences of failing to do so.
